Deborah Styler, MS
* Resident MFT Therapist
Deborah Styler received her Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Virginia Tech. Debbie is a Certified Emotion Code Practitioner and has also received additional training in Internal Family Systems Therapy and in EMDR to aid her in working with clients suffering from trauma. This training was invaluable in treating many of her clients at Ft. Belvoir’s Family Life Center. Debbie has been described as “a compassionate and encouraging presence to her clients.” Assisting people in recognizing and accessing their own spirituality, prayer, and mindfulness practices are foundational to her therapy.
Debbie came to the counseling profession from a teaching career of 18 years. She had a desire to better understand the stresses and difficulties faced by students and their families. Debbie works with compassion and empathy to foster positive change and growth in families struggling with relationship issues. She enjoys working with couples on improving communication and strengthening positive interactions and on other issues including infidelity. She also works with clients to enhance their parenting skills. Helping children and teens on issues of self-esteem, anxiety, and depression is another of her passions. She works with both men and women on trauma issues including abuse.
Debbie believes God loves all of His children and in these difficult times He has provided inspired therapies and counseling practices that can help people cope with the trials they encounter and also come to His healing from traumas they have endured.
Debbie has a lot of experience dealing with trauma (emotional, physical and sexual) and she works with children (Elementary School aged), adolescents (Middle School aged), young adults, adults, older adults, couples (looking to strengthen their relationships) and families.
Debbie is a wife, a mother of 11 and grandmother of 37.
