                        Integrating Spirituality and Psychotherapy
Taking Applications for 2023-2024

The Residency in Pastoral Counseling (RPC) at the Center for Pastoral Counseling of Virginia (CPC) is designed to provide advanced training in the skills of integrating spirituality and psychotherapy. Residents work in CPC’s centers and counsel clients with a broad range of issues. Many counselors have found the residency helpful in gathering practice hours toward licensure while honing their skills in the professional integration of faith and emotional healing, while other counselors have come to us already licensed, and looking to gain more skills in the field of working with clients effectively around spiritual issues. The RPC is open to anyone who
has completed a Master’s degree in pastoral counseling, counseling psychology, marriage and
family therapy, social work, or a related discipline.

Residents working in CPC centers will receive 60% of the fees they collect from clients. In addition, residents receive one hour of individual supervision weekly with an approved supervisor from the CPC Staff, or a supervisor outside of CPC, certified in the resident’s discipline, and three hours of group supervision two times each month from licensed supervisors on CPC’s staff, for a total of 60 hours of group supervision.  Group supervision includes clinical case presentations as well as seminars on topics such as spiritual struggles, resources, growth and assessment, theological and ethical reflection, effective communication, conflict resolution, grief, loss, and forgiveness, trauma and addictions, working with couples, families and children, and interfaith and intercultural couples. Residents are invited to help plan the content of seminars to further their training in areas of special interest.

Tuition for the Residency Program is $1800 per semester, or $3600 per year. The Residency Program begins in September and continues through May, with an orientation session scheduled for August 30th. Students beginning the program in September are expected to continue through the end of the academic year in May.  Residents have the option of continuing to see clients over the summer, and maybe invited to continue the program for a second year, and/or apply for employment with the Center for Pastoral Counseling of Virginia.

APPLICATION DEADLINE IS JUNE 30th.
